A shot millions of Americans get every year may be responsible for a recent meningitis outbreak.

Doctors suspect a steroid shot for back pain is somehow getting contaminated with the fungus that causes the disease.

So far there have been 13 cases of meningitis in Tennessee and one here in North Carolina.

The patients who got sick were treated with steroid injections between July 30 and September 18.

Health officials won't name the drug maker until the investigation is over.

They say the clinics are not responsible for the infections.
