Banner Elk, NC (WBTV) -- Cold weather and high winds associated with Hurricane Sandy brought more snow to the North Carolina mountains early Tuesday morning.

A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for the mountains until 6 a.m. Wednesday morning and a High Wind Warning will remain in effect for the foothills through Tuesday night.

Utility companies say the high winds are hampering efforts to restore power to an estimated 5,000 business and residential customers.
