Reidsville, NC -- A Reidsville family has so much to be thankful for this Thanksgiving.
It was almost a year ago, when we first met Jaxx Denny. The 7-month-old boy was missing a kidney, six ribs, and he had an S-shaped spine. News 2 has followed his journey through surgeries, recoveries and a close call, when his parents didn't know if he would make it.
Jaxx has come so far.
At 18 months, you would never know that Jaxx has had to fight for his life. Just two months ago doctors told Pete and Tammy Denny that Jaxx's condition was critical.
Now, you can't keep the little guy still.
Jaxx might not be walking on his own, but even with four metal rods inside his little body, Jaxx has found his own ways to get around. Jaxx scoots around the Dennys' house, and is also able to walk with his walker.
"He is overcoming obstacles every day," said Tammy Denny.
His parents said Jaxx teaches them something new everyday. Most importantly, never take anything for granted, even something as simple as walking.
Tammy and Pete said Jaxx has truly changed them.
"The bible tells you, you will have trials in your life. You will," said Tammy Denny. "This has been a trial that I'm glad the Lord has given us."
Pete and Tammy know Jaxx still has a long road ahead, but they're praying for plenty of celebrations along the way.
"It's been an absolute amazing journey and I just think it's going to get even better," said Pete Denny.
Jaxx has another surgery to expand the rods in his back on January 8, 2013. Pete and Tammy said they're putting their faith in the Lord that Jaxx will pull through.
