Carteret County, NC -- A Burlington man has been missing off the N.C. coast since Monday, and the U.S. Coast Guard is suspending its searching, according to the Burlington Times News.
The Coast Guard confirmed the missing fisherman was Bill Vestal of Burlington's Stevenson Vestal, a drapery company.
Vestal was reported missing around 5:15 p.m. Nov. 19. Witnesses say they saw a man disappear into the water while surf fishing at Cape Lookout National Seashore in Carteret County.
Initial investigation found Vestal stepped into deep water, causing his waders to fill with water.
The Coast Guard announced Tuesday it's suspending its search unless there are any further developments.
Vestal was the co-owner and co-founder of Stevenson Vestal. He and partner, David Stevenson, started the company in 1985.
Stevenson Vestal posted this statement on the company's website.
