Greensboro, NC -- Black Friday sales at the stores might be down a little, but not at the Christmas tree lots.
We stopped by Fred and Dot Wagoner Christmas Trees on Battleground Avenue in Greensboro Saturday. They said they've seen a surge in people since Black Friday, coming in to get the perfect tree.
If you're looking to get a fresh cut tree, but haven't gotten it yet, here's what you need to know.
"After we put a fresh cut on it, as soon as you buy it, you need to get it home and put it in some water, so it will last you all the way until Christmas, even past Christmas. We get a few people coming in having their trees up until January," said Te Rangi.
Again, to make your tree last the longest, you need to go ahead and get it in water. Otherwise the sap will harden where it was cut, and your tree won't be able to absorb the water.
You also should turn off any heat source near your tree. The more heat, the more water your tree will absorb. This will require more care and watering.
When you're looking for a tree, you need to know the size of the room where you're going to put it.
And, you should check the needle retention before you buy. If you pull on the branch and get a handful of needles, your tree is bone dry.
