Winston-Salem, NC-- A charge in a fatal crash from last year against former NC State Rep. Larry Womble has been dismissed.
Today, papers were filed at the request of the Forsyth County District Attorney, Special Prosecutors in the Attorney General's Office. The AG's office agreed to handle the case of a fatal traffic accident that occurred on December 2, 2011 in Winston-Salem and was investigated by local police.
In May 2012, the Attorney General's Office charged Larry W. Womble with one count of Misdemeanor Death By Vehicle based on the evidence available in the case at that time.
An additional assessment of the traffic accident was later conducted by an outside expert at the request of Winston-Salem Police. Based on that assessment and additional evidence that we gathered, it became clear that we no longer had sufficient evidence to prosecute.
Paperwork was filed in Forsyth County Monday to drop the charge against Womble.
