Asheville, NC (ACT) - A suspended Buncombe County Schools teacher was charged with four counts of third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor.
Tony Alan Henthorn, 28, of Deaver Street, possessed "material that contains a visual representation of a minor engaged in sexual activity with knowledge of the material's character or content," according to arrest warrants. The offenses happened in October, according to the Sheriff's Office.
School system spokeswoman Jan Blunt said Henthorn told school system officials that a girl sent him cell phone photos in October. Blunt said Henthorn was a teacher at Community High School, but hasn't been teaching since October, when he was suspended after reporting the images.
She said law enforcement took the cell phone, but the school system hadn't heard about the status of the investigation until Wednesday night.
Henthorn was released on a $100,000 unsecured bond. He is scheduled to appear in court Thursday morning.
