Greensboro, NC -- A nearly five-hour standoff between police and a Greensboro man ended peacefully Monday night, according to the police department.

Officers were attempting to serve legal papers to John Jacobs, 58, on Kilbourne Drive, when he refused to leave his home around 4:15 p.m.

Police say Jacobs barricaded himself in a bedroom, and two patrol units tried to get him to come out with no success.

Jacobs later went into a bedroom in the back of his home and told police he had a knife.

Hostage negotiators eventually came to the home to talk to Jacobs. After four and a half hours of communicating, Jacobs came out peacefully.

Police say Jacobs was then taken to Guilford County Mental Health for evaluation. He is not facing any criminal charges.
