Greensboro, NC -- Greensboro taxpayers will pay more than $900,000 to Downtown Greensboro Incorporated this year. It's for their annual budget and taxpayers support a majority of it.

Last week, their effectiveness and role was criticized by the Greensboro City Council and this week, the two entities have formed a committee to evaluate the organization and determine future goals.
DGI is in part, responsible for the hanging flower baskets, cleaning the streets and for marketing downtown.
They operate a website that promotes Center City and help organize events like the Fun Forth Festival and First Fridays.
News 2 asked City Councilman Zack Matheny if the work DGI did was worth nearly a million dollars. He said that's a question the city is trying to answer.
When we asked DGI the same question, they said they were worth the money but they say there is room for growth.
"I don't think DGI is doing something wrong, the answer is how do we allow DGI to grow? What is the impetus that will allow us to grow beyond our Main Street of Greensboro and to enhance the total development of Center City?" said Dawn Chaney, Chair of the DGI Board of Directors.
"That's always true when you have different entities and probably because we haven't increased our communication and we need to do that and we have to do that and continue to do that. We cannot become stagnant in our ability to share with each other where we are going, and where we are not going so we can work together," she added.
The city council and DGI board plan to evaluate the organization's effectiveness and map out its future.
"We can't have two different entities. One having a vision and the other one having a vision that is not the same. And this has to bring us together. I think this opportunity to bring us together is very good," said Chaney.
Their first meeting is Monday.
