More than half of our state favors measures to regulate gun purchases in the U.S. That's according to the latest Elon University Poll. The greatest support was shown toward mandatory background checks for all individuals buying a firearm.
Nine out of 10 people in the state say they support background checks.
- 83-percent support waiting periods before citizens can purchase handguns.
- 56-percent support banning the sale of semi-automatic assault rifles.
- 55-percent support limiting the number of rounds of ammunition in clips or magazines.
The live-caller telephone poll of 891 residents was conducted Feb. 24-28, 2013
The poll has a margin of error of 3.28 percentage points.
