Burlington, NC -- A 24-year-old man is dead, and a woman is in the hospital after a car slammed into a tree Saturday morning, police say.
Burlington police, firefighters and Alamance County emergency personnel responded to the corner of Durham and Walnut Streets at 4:05 a.m. in reference to the fatal accident.
Investigators say Vernell Ray Crisp Jr. was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Malibu south on Durham Street when he ran off the right side of the road near Walnut Street. Police say the car then slid out of control and hit a tree.
Crisp, of Graham, died on the scene.
His passenger, 29-year-old Latina Marie Stanley, of Burlington, went to a hospital for treatment of her injuries.
