MOUNT HOLLY, N.C. -- Authorities say a grandmother came home from church to find her grandson's girlfriend tied up in her Mount Holly home.
Investigators said the grandmother called police around 1:15 p.m. Sunday, and the grandson ran out of the house and got into a car with the woman.
Authorities say the woman escaped a short time later. She suffered cuts to her neck, but is expected to survive.
Investigators say 21-year-old Rodney Helton Jr. hid in the woods for about seven hours before a Gaston County Police officer called him on his cellphone and convinced him to surrender.
Helton has been charged with kidnapping, rape, attempted murder and other charges. He remains in jail, and it wasn't clear if he had an attorney.
