Greensboro, NC -- The Piedmont-Triad is one step closer to becoming the world headquarters for Honda Jet.
Local economic leaders say what today's groundbreaking shows is that our region is taking off.
Honda Jet company executives with city and airport officials ceremoniously got the work started Wednesday morning.
They tilled the ground and turned the dirt at what will be the site of Honda Aircraft Company's World Headquarters and Production Facility.
Airport Authority Chairman, Henry Isaacson says it's more than just the beginning of what's to come.
"I believe that there will be other businesses coming in associated with the aviation industry and then we will in time be that aerotropolis that cargo hub the aviation center of the state if not the entire region."
State economic leaders called what's happening here the biggest day in aviation in our state since 1903 when the Wright Brothers made their first flight.
Honda Jet, they say is continuing that tradition.
The plant will produce advanced light jets.
Leaders expect to begin delivery of Honda Jets to customers in 2010.
