
Winston-Salem, NC-- The Wake Forest Athletic Department has teamed with Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools to encourage reading throughout all 4th grade classes this season in honor of the Skip Prosser, the head coach of the Demon Deacons men's basketball team from 2001 until his death in 2007.
In conjunction with the first Skip Prosser Classic, a men's basketball game scheduled on an annual basis with Xavier University where Coach Prosser was the head coach from 1994 until 2001. The first Skip Prosser Classic will be played on January 5, 2010 at the LJVM at 5 pm.
Fourth graders will have the opportunity to read as many books as possible from October 7 until December 11 in order to win different prizes from Wake Forest Athletics. Those who read at least 15 books in the allotted time frame will be awarded a free ticket to the game on January 5. Students who read 20 or more books will not only receive a free ticket to the game but will be recognized on the floor at halftime.
Every child participating in the program will receive an official Wake Forest bookmark.
The late Coach Prosser was an avid reader who emphasized the importance of reading to all student-athletes who played for him throughout his coaching tenure. It was instilled in him by his mother, Jo Prosser who was a teacher throughout her career.
