Guilford County, NC -- The countdown is on! Students have a limited amount of time to get their immunizations and stay in school.
For middle schoolers, the Tdap shot is a necessity by 30 days into the school year. Without proof of vaccination, your student will be sent home.
Guilford County Department of Public Health has added more special clinics.
Wednesday, September 7 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Tuesday, September 13 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Monday, September 19 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Tuesday, September 20 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Appointments are also available 8:15 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. any weekday (except holidays) in the Department of Public Health's general immunization clinics.
Appointments for all clinics are required. For an appointment at the 1100 E. Wendover Avenue Greensboro clinic, call 641-3245. Appointments in High Point are at 501 E. Green Drive, call 641-3245.
Here are a few other mmunization requirements the GCHD sent out relating to school entry:
1. A tetanus/diphtheria/pertussis(whooping cough) or "Tdap" booster for children who are:
a) entering 6th grade in public school on or after August 1, 2008, if five or more years have passed since the last dose of this vaccine, or
b) 12 years of age on or after August 1, 2008 and who are educated in a private school, home-school or a non- traditional school, if five or more years have passed since the last dose of Tdap, and
c) students enrolling in college or university for the first time on or after July 1, 2008.
2. A second dose of the mumps vaccination (called MMR-measles, mumps, rubella) for persons who are enrolling in a school, college or university for the first time on or after July 1, 2008.
