Elon, NC - Students at Elon University put on a live seven hour Election Night Campus Show. The show is organized, edited, shot, written and hosted by Elon students.

The show includes live interviews with local politicians and analysts.

The broadcast goes throughout Elon's campus and online. It's part of Elon Student Television. ESTV puts on several shows during the course of the year including a weekly newscast.

Spartan TV at UNCG is also working past midnight to provide election coverage for students, staff and the public. You can access them on www.spartantelevision.com.

Elon Election Show Updates:

7:00 PM: Show opens with a total of 50 students directing, producing, writing, editing, and hosting the start of their six hour live election broadcast.

"This is our chance to not only inform our viewers, but also prove to ourselves that we can do a successful, historic live election show," said Drake Springer, senior director of Phoenix14News, Elon's student-run news program.

7:30 PM: The show has had four live shots, a panel of analysts, two main anchors and several other student reporters around campus. It seems as if every corner of the bottom floor of the communications building has spot lights and a reporter getting ready to go on-air.

"We might mess up just a little bit, but it's exciting, it's fun, we get to be ourselves and show what we can do," said Kevin Kline, a student reporter for Phoenix14News.

8:00 PM: An estimated 5,000 students attend Elon University, all are able to watch the Election Show on campus. Each main room of the news center has roughly a dozen students directing live shots and researching information.

"It's exciting to watch the political process play out in front of me and get to report it to my campus," said Mackenzie Ames a production assistant for the Election Show.

9:00 PM: Break time. The show continues but students rotate out of the newsroom for a dinner/snack. Pizza, doughnuts, potato chips, and soda are the health food of choice. The show is on it's third hour, students say after a rocky start in the beginning of the show, it's progressing smoothly.

"The mood's pretty calm, it's busy trying to keep updated and constantly give out information to our shows," said Kelsey Lodge, who's working in the Newsroom Information Center for the student-run show.

10:30 PM: As news comes in of candidates victories and losses in their respective political races, the layout of the show changes. Breaking news takes precedent over analysis. Students say the key to being able to change the show is for everyone to remain calm. They also rely on constant communication across the building and campus through two-way radios donated by a fellow student.
