Guitarist Eddie Van Halen has undergone emergency surgery, forcing Van Halen to postpone a series of upcoming tour dates.
The group posted a statement on its website explaining, "Eddie Van Halen underwent an emergency surgery for a severe bout of Diverticulitis. No further surgeries are needed." The 57-year-old rocker is expected to make a full recovery within 4-6 months.
Diverticulitis involves bulging sacs or pouches of the inner lining of the intestine that become inflamed or infected. According to WebMD, the disease can be very painful.
"Van Halen's scheduled November 2012 tour of Japan is currently being rescheduled and the band looks forward to seeing and playing for their fans in 2013," the statement revealed.
In February, Van Halen released the album, "A Different Kind of Truth," and has been on the road to support it.
