New York, NY -- People aren't playing -- so the games aren't staying. Electronic Arts is shutting down some of its Facebook-based games because not enough people are playing them.
Among the games being phased out are "The Sims Social" and "SimCity Social." EA says the decision won't affect its more popular titles like "Bejeweled Blitz" and "Plants vs. Zombies Adventures" from PopCap. It's an interesting time for those providing games on social media sites.
Zynga has also had trouble attracting players to many of its games -- and has shut down games and trimmed jobs.
Meanwhile, Facebook claims more than 250 million -- or one in four of its users -- play games online each month.
