Greensboro, NC -- A mom and her eight children are homeless after a fire tore through their Reidsville home.

The fire devoured the home on Sandy Cross Road Wednesday night.

The living room, bedrooms, and kitchen are all charred, and coated in smoke and soot.

Shaunna Mitchell says her house was vandalized two days ago. Now she is devastated, but greatful her family was not home with the flames broke out.

Mitchell says fire crews were able to salvage a few family photos.

The fire is under investigation. Mitchell says firefighters told her they believe it sparked in the kitchen or laundry room.

The Rockingham County Red Cross is assisting the family. The non-profit is putting them up in a hotel and plans to help with a down payment on a new home.
