Greensboro, NC-- Dr. Harold Martin Sr. has been named the new chancellor of North Carolina A&T University.
The search committee began the looking for candidates on March 13. The chair said it was a thorough and fast search. He quoted Erskine Bowles as saying ""I want someone who knows NC A&T; someone who knows our campus our students; someone who can take charge and move us in a new direction."
Martin was the former chancellor of WSSU. Martin holds a Bachelors and Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from NC A&T and a Ph.D. from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. He was the vice chancellor of academic affairs for the NC A&T from 1994 to 1999.
Martin says his primary challenge as chancellor will be dealing with budget cuts being made at the state level. He plans to focus on raising the funds needed to maintain the quality of services A&T offers.
Former Chancellor Stanley Battle announced his resignation in February. His last day will be June 7th. Martin is scheduled to start June 8, 2009.
