
Greensboro -- In 1976 The Association for the Study of Afro-American Life and History named the month of February as Black History Month. The annual observance inspires celebrations here and abroad. One way the Students and faculty at North Carolina A&T State University are celebrating is through an African American art exhibit.
The Paul R. Jones Collection of African American art is one of the world's oldest, largest and most complete. It is comprised of more than 1,500 artworks and includes paintings, drawings, photographs and three-dimensional works by such noted artists as Joseph Delaney, Romare Bearden P.H. Polk, Elizabeth Catlett and Jacob Lawrence. This unique exhibition highlights works of art in the Paul R. Jones Collection are representative of dance, drama, and music.
The Department of Visual and Performing Arts will pay tribute to the collection through performance vignettes illuminating the unity and harmony that exist between the performing arts and the visual arts.
?A Century of African American Art: The Paul R. Jones Collection? was organized and circulated by the University of Delaware. Made possible by the Paul R. Jones Partnership between North Carolina A&T State University and the University of Delaware, both institutions seek to motivate exploration, discussion, and celebration of African American culture in the American legacy.
