Greensboro, NC -- Dozens of postal workers plan to rally outside the Greensboro office of Rep. Howard Coble (R-NC, 6th District) Tuesday afternoon in hopes he'll deliver support to a bill they believe will solve the postal service's problems.
The local rally is part of a wider national effort to garner support for HR 1351, which would change the way the United States Postal Service has to allocate retirement funds. Supporters say the bill's passage would fix the USPS' debt problems, make it solvent, maintain Saturday delivery and keep postal workers from losing their jobs. Some other resolutions currently being considered on Capitol Hill propose major overhauls to the way the postal service functions.
Rep. Coble has a scheduled event in High Point Tuesday afternoon during the rally, but says he wants to make it back to his office in time to meet with the postal workers. He told WFMY News 2 he doesn't know if he'll support HR 1351 -- or any current postal service reform bill -- but does hope to find a solution that keeps the postal service active and relevant.
