Colfax, NC -- Cookie sales officially have officially started, and you'll be able to buy them through March 12.
There are eight varieties this year: Thin Mints, Caramel deLites, Peanut Butter Patties, Peanut Butter Sandwiches, Shortbread, Thanks-A-Lots, Lemonades and Shout Outs; $4/box.
Money raised goes to the Girl Scouts. The core of the Girl Scout Cookie Program focuses on teaching girls five essential skills including: goal setting, decision making, money management, people skills and business ethics.

Allison Rose is a local scout who hopes to sell 600 boxes of cookies. You can help her reach that goal, and pick up cookies at two locations over the next month: the Lowes Foods on Church Street, Sunday, February 26 2:00-6:00pm; or The Walgreens at 220 and 150 on Saturday, March 17 2:00-5:00pm.
You can also follow the P2P Girl Scout cookie characters on Facebook: Tommy Thin Mint, Candi Caramel deLite, Patsy Peanut Butter Pattie and Simon Shortbread.
You can also support Operation Sweet Treat where Girl Scouts collect orders for cookies to be shipped to US military personnel serving in the United States and abroad. This year's goal is to collect 25,000 boxes of cookies and 1,000 letters of encouragement to send out to the troops.
