Greensboro, NC - This weekend you can get free recipe ideas and food samples with items just sitting around in your pantry.  You'd think this event was at a grocery store, but it's actually at a food pantry in East Greensboro.

New Jerusalem Cathedral's Bread of Life Food Pantry is opening its doors to the community but with a twist.

So often food banks get can food donations of items people can rarely use for a meal. Eventually, the cans sit on the shelves for long periods of time & end up being thrown away due to the expiration date.

The Bread of Life Food Pantry will not only provide canned goods but also pastas, meat, dairy, bread & fresh vegetables.  And as a twist, it'll teach people what foods they can make with donated items.

At the pantry's grand opening event this weekend, they'll have 20 cooked dishes that everyone can taste test to show two things:
1) What delicious food can be cooked out of donated items
2) Give donors a better idea of the items to donate (perishable & non)

The long term plan also includes a greenhouse & community garden.

The event is Saturday, June 9th from 10am to 2pm at New Jerusalem Cathedral located at 1606 Phillips Avenue in Greensboro.  For more information call 336-272-1305 ext 204.
