Greensboro, NC - Get the kids out of the house this summer and onto a team sport. Youth football registration starts Monday, July 2nd in Greensboro. And in all this heat you know they've got to play it safe.
Our Tracey McCain found talked with young athletes and their coaches at the Glenwood Center in Greensboro about the heat. Each had their own way of keeping cool. Don Tilly, the Director of Athletics for the city said to the key is to keep kids hydrated with plenty of water. The city requires kids to take frequent breaks in temperatures like this and coaches teach children to let them know when they need to rest.
Registration for the Youth Football league will be held July 2-27 at various locations throughout the community. League play is open to ages 7-12.
Pee Wees (ages 7-9); and Mites (ages 10-12). Ages are determined as of October 16, 2012. Players are assigned to teams, based on the district in which they live in.
To register parents will need to provide a valid copy of the player's birth certificate and the Parent's Association for Youth Sports (P.A.Y.S.) card for verification. The league fee is $50 per player and will be collected by recreation centers supervisors or organization representatives.
On site registration will be held at the Athletics office, 1001 Fourth St., Monday-Friday from 8:30 am-4:30 pm. Registration will also be accepted Monday-Friday from 9:30 am-12 noon and 2-8 pm, at the following locations: Trotter Center, 3906 Betula St.; Peeler Center, 1300 Sykes Ave.; Glenwood Center, 2010 Coliseum Blvd.; Lewis Center, 3110 Forest Lawn Dr.; Windsor Center, 1601 E. Lee St. and Warnersville Center, 601 Doak St.
Athletic associations are also accepting registration from 6:30 pm-8:30 pm at the following sites:
• Thursday, July 19 - Guilford: Leonard Center, 6324 Ballinger Rd.
• Tuesday, July 24 - Northeast: Hicone Complex, off Hwy 29 North
• Thursday, July 26 - McLeansville: Eastern Guilford Middle School
