Vice President Joe Biden is preparing to make his recommendations to President Obama on gun control on Tuesday, setting up a showdown between the White House and Republicans in Congress.
Among the proposals the Vice President may recommend, three likely proposals are an assault weapons ban, a ban on high capacity magazines, and background checks on all gun buyers.
New proposals would have to be passed by Congress, something that is far from a sure thing.
CBS's Bob Schieffer asked Sen. John McCain about a ban on Sunday's "Face the Nation."
This was their exchange:
Schieffer: "Do you think an assault weapons ban can pass the Congress?"
Sen. McCain responded, "No.
Bob Schieffer: Do you think it should? Sen. McCain: No.
