Asheboro, NC - We all know you need flour, oil and eggs to make pancakes, right? But imagine 1,200 pounds of it! That's a whole lot of pancake mix.
Tracey McCain took Good Morning Show viewers to Asheboro for the Kiwanis Club's annual Pancake Day. The group serves about 5,000 meals on Pancake Day each year. Pancake Chairman Dr. Charlie Lee says the hot cakes are really good, but it's all about giving back to the community.
The Kiwanis Club serves more than 70 local organizations, such as the Boys and Girls Club and the Salvation Army. It also provides scholarships to area college-bound students every year.
All the money collected goes to help the Kiwanis Club's mission to serve the community.
The pancakes are made from scratch, two cups of batter at a time, said Mayor David Smith. Before the day is over, they will have cooked 800 pounds of sausage and have used 1,200 pounds of flour, 245 pounds of butter and 40 gallons of canola oil.
