Greensboro, NC -- One decision you make could save several lives.
April is National Donate Life Month. Beth Hinesley with Carolina Donor Services and Brian Carden, a heart recipient, stopped by the Good Morning Show Friday.
Carden shared his story about receiving a new heart and how he is now celebrating one year with his new heart. Without someone making the decision to be an organ donor, he might not be here today.
Hinesley talked about how easy it is to sign up to be an organ donor and debunked the myth that medical personnel won't make as much of an effort to keep someone alive who is an organ donor compared to someone who isn't.
According to Carolina Donor Services, one organ donor can save up to eight lives and dozens more through tissue donation.
The organization also says there are more than 3,500 people waiting for a transplant in North Carolina and more than 117,000 in the United States.
