Greensboro, NC - Local and State Health Officials say more research is need to confirm that the Lone Star Tick can cause a meat allergy.

News 2 spoke to a doctor at The Guilford Health Department. He told us that the Lone Star Tick is one of the most common biteing ticks in North Carolina.

Dr. Ward Robinson said more research is needed before he would believe that all Lone Star Ticks will cause meat allergies.

This comes after researchers at the University of Virginia said, saliva from the Lone Star Tick may turn people into vegetarians after a bite from the tick.

"Confirmation is needed...this has to be evaluated at another center and in another area. We have to see what evidence these guys have," said Dr. Ward Robinson, Guilford County Health Department.

Robinson, added that we need to beware of all ticks because they can become a deadly problem without the correct education.
