GREENSBORO - A federally funded panel is studying whether there's a way to tally happiness.

Countries are often judged by the the amount of money earned, electronics sold and homes built. The federal government wants to tally happiness right alongside gross domestic product and jobs reports.

Some people say things like family and friends are what really make them happy, not just possessions.

Sam Hicks of Greensboro said his city is what makes him happy.

"Born and raised in greensboro, matter of fact," he said. "Greensboro is a populated place that's good for families, and kids, and elderly people, too."
