Greensboro, NC -- David Letterman talked about a Greensboro pet on his late night show Tuesday night. It was part of the small town news segment. He read a classified ad about a missing Cockatiel that sings the Andy Griffith theme song.
Wednesday, WFMY News 2 caught up with the owner of the bird. She did not know Letterman used her ad. But she hopes the segment reunits her with the bird.
June Blackmon says he flew off her shoulder in Adams Farm nearly three weeks ago. She walked outside to say goodbye to a friend, and the bird flew the coop. When Blackmon went inside to try to get a net to catch "Tweety Bird" he vanished.
Blackmon says she's had the bird for 10 years. Her grandson adopted the animal to keep him company in college. But the bird was too noisy, so he gave the bird to Blackmon.
She taught it to sing the Andy Griffith theme song quickly. Blackmon says "Tweety Bird" whistled it every morning when he woke up.
She says if someone sees a cokatiel they can easily tell if it's "Tweety Bird." Just whistle the song, and he will join in.
