Graham, NC -- The owner of a property facing nuisance abatement wants to settle with Alamance County.
Raymond Barbour owns the property where the Paradise Club is located on Highway 87 South in Graham. The Alamance County Sheriff's Office raided the club earlier this month, filing more than 700 charges.
A four-month undercover investigation led to drug charges and evidence of violations of sexually-oriented business ordinances.
Barbour met with Alamance County Attorney Clyde Albright Tuesday.
Barbour denied he knew anything illegal was going on at the Paradise Club, but wants to settle with the county, Albright said. Barbour collected $700 a week in rent from the operators of the club, Theresa and Ronald Davis, Albright said.
Last week, a judge decided to keep the club closed until a trial is complete.
Albright said no agreement has been reached yet. He said the county might let Barbour keep the property, but would restrict it from operating as it currently does. The county might collect fines from Barbour and the operators of the club, Albright said.
Barbour's brother, Elliott, was originally listed in the suit for the nuisance abatement of the property. Albright said Elliott Barbour will be removed from the case.
"I realized he does not have the capacity to be involved in this case," Albright said.
"I do not believe he was involved in it. He's not liable. He should not be punished for the actions of other people," he said.
