
Cooleemee, NC -- A woman died in a wreck early Monday morning after police say she led them on a high speed chase. The chase satrted in Cooleemee which is Davie County and ended in Rowan County.
The North Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the crash that happened around 12:45 am at the intersection of Needmore Road and Mount Vernon Road in Rowan County.
A Cooleemee officer was chasing 32-year-old Elizabeth Michelle Deese for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. During the chase, she entered the intersection with a sharp curve and crossed the center line hitting a Ford Expedition head-on.
Deese died at the scene. Trooper Doty says Deese was not wearing a seatbelt. They are waiting on autopsy results to see if she was under the influence. The two adults and one child in the SUV was treated and released.
The officer said Deese's 1998 Cavalier was going 100-120mph at times. The officer's dash-cam captured the chase and crash but Cooleemee's police chief tells WFMY News 2, they aren't not releasing the video at this time.
