
Greensboro, NC -- Greensboro Police say the driver of the Acura in the crash that killed a young mother turned herself in late Tuesday evening.
Shaquetta Johnson and her attorney arrived at the Greensboro Magistrate's Office at about 6 p.m. Johnson was surrendering after allegedly being involved in a fatal crash early Monday morning.
Police say Johnson lost control of her Acura and crashed near the I-40/I-85 overpass on US Highway 29. Her passenger, Cherita Jones was killed and left at the scene of the crash.
Johnson has been charged with involuntary manslaughter, felony hit and run and driving while license revoked.
Johnson was released after posting a $15,000 bond.
The investigation is ongoing. Police are still looking for several others who were involved in the crash.
Witnesses told police they saw four men run away from a BMW, which also crashed nearby. They also said an SUV arrived at the scene and someone helped Johnson out of the Acura. Shelton Phelps, who was seen getting out of the SUV, was left at the scene as he attempted to help Jones. Police have charged him with aiding and abetting a felony hit and run for helping Johnson get into the SUV and leave the crash scene.
Police are currently looking for seven to eight people including the four people inside the BMW and three to four other people who were riding in the SUV. Investigators believe all of the people involved know each other. Prior to the crashes, they say the group had gathered at B.G. McGees, a Greensboro bar.
