Davidson County, NC-- A 4-year-old was hospitalized Sunday after being attacked by a dog near her Davidson County home.

"She had a sucker in her mouth, and the dog tried to take it," said Rodney Baisden, the 4-year-old's father. "She's got three lacerations on her face, two bites on her arm, a couple bites on her legs, and it took 50 stitches in her face."

Investigators spoke to several witnesses to the incident and they said a neighbor's dog jumped on the four-year-old, knocked her to the ground and starting biting her. She was taken to Lexington Memorial Hospital and later transferred to Brenner's Children Hospital in Winston-Salem.

The 4-year-old's uncle told WFMY News 2 he hit the dog with a hammer after the attack. He said deputies may press charges against him.

The dog's owner told WFMY News 2 the dog has never shown signs of aggression. Her fiance, Richard Barnes, said he is not convinced the dog attacked the 4-year-old. However, if deputies prove the dog is responsible, he said he will have it euthanized. The Davidson County Sheriff's Office issued a Nuisance Order to the dog's owner. The investigation into the attack is on-going.
