Winston-Salem, NC -- Arrest warrants for a Forsyth County drama teacher Ralph David Surridge show that the alleged victim was 13-years-old.
Surridge, a teacher at Mineral Springs Middle School, was charged last week with multiple sexual misconduct charges. Those charges include 3 counts indecent liberties with a minor, 1 count felonious sexual offense with a student, and 5 counts felonious indecent liberties with a child.
In addition to the sex charges, deputies also recovered two guns in Surridge's possession. The warrants show the recovered weapons include a Colt .22 Caliber Handgun and a Marlin .22 Caliber Rifle.
Surridge is a convicted felon having served six months in prison in 1985 on embezzlement charges.
District Superintendent Donald Martin said Monday that a background check was done on Ralph David Surridge when he was hired in 2002. His felony conviction for embezzlement did not appear in their search.
The Winston-Salem/Forsyth County school system announced last week that it would conduct additional check on employees to make sure others don't fall through the cracks.
