Winston-Salem, NC -- Taxpayers still have a chance to recover some of the millions spent to attract the Dell plant.

The City of Winston-Salem formed a task force to find a new tenant for the Dell facility.

The city plans to aggressively go after a new tenant to bring in jobs and ensure Dell's 790,000 square foot plant doesn't just sit empty.

But task force members say it won't be entirely up to the city to determine what happens to the facility.

"One issue is that Dell owns the building," explained Bob Leak, President of Winston-Salem Business Inc. Leak is one of the members of the newly formed task force. "So, Dell will ultimately make the decision of how it is disposed of. They can sell it. Lease it. Give it away. Whatever they choose to do, our role will be to try to bring quality opportunities to the table."

City leaders expect Dell to vacate their facilities by the end of January next year.

More than 900 workers will lose their jobs before then.

The Governor says Dell "will pay back millions in incentives."
