Greensboro, NC -- In honor of American Education Week local school leaders made a stop at Murphey Traditional Academy in Greensboro Monday. They spoke about the importance of public schools and education, and encouraged neighbors in the community to be more involved in school activities and volunteering.

"We have 120 school sites in Guilford County, and we would like for everyone to get out and celebrate great public schools," said Tijuana Hayes, GCAE president.

Dudley High School's marching band also performed at Monday's event.

Each day this week will spotlight different parts of student life. Tuesday is Parents' Day.
