Alamance County, NC -- Dedicated race car drivers and their crews worked through Friday's hot temperatures at Ace Speedway.
They prepared for hours before the KEMCO Electric 220, doing everything from fueling cars to checking tires on the hot asphalt to keeping themselves hydrated.
"We just keep chugging them down," said driver Chuck Wall, who had plenty of water bottles nearby.
"It's just muggy and stale beacuse you're kind of down in a hole so you don't get a whole lot of breeze," he said.
Wall and his crew chief have been racing for years, but Wall admits this summer has been tough.
"This year's been a little hotter than normal I guess," he said. Crew member Dean Ward said regardless of the temperature, it's worth it.
"It ain't worth sitting on the couch watching TV. We might as well get out and do something here and we love racing, that's what we love to do," said Ward.
