Joining WFMY News 2 in the February of 2002, Tanya Rivera says she knew from a very young age that broadcasting was for her. She worked for a kid's news show in Miami when she was ten...and that love of broadcasting took her to the University of Florida.

She graduated in 1993 and took her first job in Panama City at WMBB-TV, where she met and married her husband Brian. In 2000, she left her station in Florida as the morning news anchor and made her way up to North Carolina.

In January 2011, Tanya was named 5pm anchor and 6pm co-anchor after several years anchoring the Good Morning Show.

Q&A with Tanya Rivera

If you weren't on television news, what would you do for a living?
Event/Wedding Planner. I love "themed" stuff and figuring out how to make events larger than life. It's fun and creative and I get to use a glue gun!

Name one of your role models.
My parents. Both went back to school after I was born. They worked full time, went to school full time, and cared for me full time! They taught me (through their actions) to work hard, play hard and treat others the way I would want to be treated.

What are your pet peeves?
People who whistle and jingle change in their pockets!!!!!!!

What is your favorite food?
Roastbeef, mashed potatoes and gravy. Throw in a yummy yeast roll and I'll make dessert!

What are your hobbies?
A hobby by denfinition is a favorite object or pursuit. Normally I wouldn't classify God as a hobby, but by definition, spending time with Him and studying His Word, and leading others into a better relationship with Him is a favorite pursuit. I love to read crafty-type magazines and spending time with my family (some of which live right across the street).
