Greensboro, NC -- People praying for lower gas prices had their appeals answered Saturday morning as a church paid down the price of fuel for two hours.

From 9-11 a.m., Catalyst Church paid 25 cents on every gallon of gas people pumped. That effectively dropped the price to $3.50 per gallon for people who stopped at the Citgo station on Edgefield Road near Highway 68.

"I'm a poor school teacher in Guilford County," Kim Thomas said. "So to save any money is a blessing."

The lines never got overwhelmingly long, but some people did take more than one car to get topped off.

"We wanted to help people to where we're able to look them in their eyes and let them know we car about them, because that's what you're supposed to do," Catalyst Church lead pastor Scott Haulter said. "That's the end goal, so that's what we're doing."

Customers who stopped for gas say they appreciate the church members' efforts.

"I thought that I was coming and they were paying 25 cents a gallon," Thomas said. "But they're not just doing that. They're here, they're showing their faith."

Catalyst Church has only been around since 2009. It meets at Northwest High School on Sunday mornings at 10.
