Winston-Salem, NC -- People across the country are getting a glimpse of the Triad thanks to local filmmakers.
'StaleMate' was shot entirely in Winston-Salem in January 2010 by the production company Gillder Frontier, based in Winston-Salem.
"StaleMate is the story of woman who is kind of torn between two men, either of whom would be perfect for her but in different ways," said Geoff Thompson, who produced the film.
The movie has made appearances at film festivals in Florida, Los Angeles, and New York, taking home Best Picture from the Staten Island Film Festival. Thompson said there were 1,500 entries.
He said it was an humbling experience winning the award, and hopes it's a jumping off point for bigger things to come.
"We're hopeful that somebody will either spark some interest in the other things that we have going on or they'll say, 'hey we'd like to give you some money for this one,'" he said.
Thompson has enjoyed showcasing Winston-Salem around the country.
"Everywhere we've gone people have said, 'Where did you shoot this thing? Because it looks beautiful,'" he said.
The film was shot throughout the city, including at BB&T Ballpark during its construction.
"We were unbelievably lucky to get to be able to shoot at a half built baseball stadium," said Thompson.
"He added, "It's great to be able to go around the country, to be able to say we're from Winston-Salem. We're not interested in going Hollywood. We're here. We live here. We have roots here."
