Greensboro, NC -- An Greensboro woman, confined to a wheelchair, got a chance at freedom with the help of volunteers.

76-year-old Shirley Bray has lived inside her home for 45 years.

Last week, Bray's doctored ordered her to stay in a wheelchair for the rest of her life.

A non-profit group called Housing Greensboro teamed up with the church based organization called Catholic Heart Work Camp to build her a new ramp.

Building Bray's ramp is a part of an annual citywide program called Ramp-a-thon.

"I just couldn't believe it, I just couldn't believe I was going to get this," expressed Bray.

Nearly 300 people have traveled to the Piedmont Triad this week for the Ramp-a-thon.   Nine volunteers total are working on Bray's house.

"I know I didn't have the financing and the money to have it done but I just kept praying and kept praying and I asked and here it is." said Bray.

The group started building Shirley Bray's ramp Monday morning. The team expected to finish by Thursday.

If you would like a ramp built at your house, all you have to do is apply.   For more information call Housing Greensboro at 336-232-0127 or visit the organization's website.
