Burlington, NC -- Hunting for a job is hard enough. Well, try doing it when you are falsely accused of being a high school drop out.
That's what happened to an Alamance County woman. Nineteen year-old Hillary Leath of Burlington graduated from Walter Williams High School in 2009.
Leath learned she was listed as a drop out when she went to get her license.
The North Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles charged her an extra $50 because her state record showed that she never graduated high school.
That happened in May of 2011. Since then, Leath has called her former high school, school district, and the state to fix the mistake.
"It's just frustrating to know that you just worked so hard for something and they're just trying to brush it under the rug. While going through contacting people, I've had somebody tell me well, you've graduated already so just let it go. No I am not going to let it go, It's on my record," said Leath.
Alamance-Burlington School District Officials said when this happens, you have to order a copy of your transcript online and then bring your transcript to the school district's office.
The school district will then contact the state department of education to have the mistake removed from your record.
