Winston-Salem, NC -- The Salvation Army got an unexpected donation in one of their kettles in Winston-Salem.
An anonymous donor dropped a white gold and diamond ring into a kettle at the K&W Cafeteria on Healy Drive. The ring was wrapped inside a $20 bill with a note that said "This is real. In loving memory of Benny and Phyllis."
A gemologist at Windsor Jewelers estimates the ring is worth at least $3500.
"We are grateful that someone entrusted us with something so valuable," said Major Kent Davis, Area Commander for The Salvation Army of Winston-Salem. "We will make the best use of this donation to help our neighbors in need."
Major Davis told WFMY News 2, that in all of his 24 years with the Salvation Army, they've never had a donation of this value before.
