Greensboro, NC -- Some would say its human nature to want to know where you came from. Who was your great great grandfather, and what did he do with his life? Now, the Virginia Historical Society could help you figure it out for free.

The group is working on an online database that will help African-Americans find their ancestors.

The "Unknown No Longer" project has names of thousands of slaves, slave holders and free blacks that lived in Virginia. More slaves lived in Virginia than in any other state.

There are more than 8 million documents on the site, and it is updated weekly. Its aim is to help people fill in the gaps in their family history and our nation's.

Check it out for yourself at The Virginia Historical Society.
