The two large piles of tires were dumped along the treeline about a half-mile from the White Street landfill.
SLIDESHOW - Illegally Dumped Tires
Police received the call about the tires just after 8am Wednesday morning.
A crime scene unit was on the scene looking for evidence as to who may have dumped the tires.
A representative from the City of Greensboro was also at the site. It is yet to be determined who will clean up the tires and when they will be removed.
"Illegal tire dumping is not just an eyesore, It's a growing problem in Guilford County," said Guilford County Environmental Services Coordinator Susan Heim.
Heim said illegal tire dumping is on the rise because of a struggling economy.
"We've got lots of small tire retailers out there that are trying to make a living by selling used tires and because of the way the statutes are written, it's difficult for them to get rid of the tires for free," explained Heim.
Each tire costs about 73 cents to move.
Guilford County pays a contractor to haul them to a facility in Moore County to be shredded That's where the tires are shredded.
Eventually, the steel bands on the tires are recycled.
