Greensboro, NC - There is good news and bad news for crime in Greensboro, the good news is most major crimes in Greensboro have declined, the bad news is incidences of criminal homicide and rape have risen. This, according to statistics compiled by the Greensboro Police Department.
Incidences of robbery fell 27%, with commercial robberies declining by 40% and robbery of individuals declining by 23%.
Persons between the ages of 18-25 represented the largest percentages of victims, with the crimes occurring between the hours of 9:00 pm and 3:00 am.
Burglaries were also down 14% compared to a three year average.
Aggravated assaults and larcenies also showed a drop, falling seven percent and five percent respectively.
Unfortunately, incidences of criminal homicide and rape have risen compared to three year averages. Homicides rose by 32% compared to a three year average, with 25 murders occurring in Greensboro in 2011, compared with 16 in 2010.
Reports of rape also rose by 14% compared to a three year average, reversing a steady decline that had been happening since 2008.
