Greensboro, N.C. -- The John Edwards trial wrapped up its first week with a lot of drama on Friday. You had tension, tears and even a few smiles, all from Andrew Young, the prosecution's star witness and Edwards' former aide.

Young seemed to crack some kind of a joke with a court worker right after he stepped into the witness box Friday morning. He also smirked a bit during some of the defense attorney's questioning.

But, the mood changed as Young began talking about sacrifices he says he made for Edwards.

Young said, "We did everything we could that he asked us to do. Then, he walked away from us."

The last time Young saw Edwards, Young said, "At one point, I was scared for my life."

Young says he and Edwards were on a country road and things got heated. Young says he was trying to get Edwards to tell the truth about everything.

But, Edwards' attorney insisted Young was trying to blackmail Edwards.

Later, Young teared up and broke down when he started talking about how his wife had kept his kids balanced throughout the entire scandal/ordeal.

Andrew Young's wife, Cheri, took the stand at the end of the day. She did get to say much except to stress how many sacrifices her family made for the Edwards family.

Cheri Young will be back on the stand Monday. That's when we expect to hear much more about the money involved in this case.

Andrew Young said repeatedly in court that his wife was in charge of the finances.
