RALEIGH, NC - On Thursday NC Highway Patrol fired Trooper Michael Wayne Holyfield, effective immediately.

The department's decision came after an internal investigation by the Highway Patrol Internal Affairs Section that dealt with non-criminal personnel issues.

Holyfield has 30 days to appeal his dismissal.

Holyfield is also a Candor Town Commissioner. He was one of the individuals who voted to fire four of the town's five police officers. The firing of those officers has sparked months of controversy in the town.

In addition, Holyfield also faces a felony charge for illegally accessing a government computer.
